Walking barefoot through a quiet meadow, you feel the soft grass beneath your feet. In the center stands the World Tree, a towering presence that invites you closer. This journey is not just a walk; it is a passage into deeper understanding, a chance to explore your connection to the Upperworld, Middle World, and Underworld through the Axis Mundi. Let us begin this guided meditation together.
Approaching the World Tree
As you reach the World Tree, notice its vast trunk and the intricate patterns of bark. Gently knock three times, feeling the energy respond beneath your knuckles. The door to another realm opens as you step inside the hollow trunk. The air is cool and earthy, filled with the scent of ancient wood.
Journey Through the Roots to the Underground River
Moving deeper, you find yourself navigating through the roots. They twist and turn, guiding you downward until you reach an underground river. The water flows quietly, reflecting a soft light. Here, take a moment to wash away everything from the mundane world that you cannot carry with you. Let the river cleanse your worries, distractions, and doubts.
Traveling the River to Meet Your Guide
Follow the river’s gentle current until you arrive at a bank where your guide awaits. This figure radiates calm and wisdom. Climb from the riverbank and allow your guide to lead you into the forest. The path winds ahead, and you notice the light dimming as the canopy thickens.
Entering the Dark Forest and the Clearing
The forest grows darker, shadows deepening around you. Soon, you arrive at a round clearing. A breeze stirs the leaves, swirling them in a clockwise rotation. In the darkness, a glowing disc appears on the forest floor. It rises slowly, transparent yet solid in form.
The Three Glowing Discs and the Axis Mundi
One disc becomes three, stacked vertically and connected by a central pillar—the Axis Mundi. Each disc represents a realm:
The Upperworld, shining with light and possibility
The Middle World, where you stand, grounded and present
The Underworld, deep and mysterious
Each disc contains smaller discs that turn like cogwheels. Watch them carefully. Are they spinning at the same speed? Are they turning in the same direction? This movement reflects the balance and interaction between the realms.

Messages from Your Guide
Your guide’s voice is calm and clear. They ask you to consider your connection to each disc. How do you relate to the Upperworld’s light, the Middle World’s reality, and the Underworld’s depths? Reflect on your personal experiences, emotions, and insights tied to these realms.
Your connection to the Axis Mundi is your link between these worlds. It is your inner axis, your spiritual spine that holds you steady as you move through life’s layers.
Bringing the Wisdom Back to the Mundane World
Ask your guide how to carry this knowledge into your everyday life. They suggest embracing the principle of “As Above, So Below.” This means recognizing that what happens in your inner world reflects in your outer world, and vice versa.
You can apply this by:
Cultivating balance between your thoughts, feelings, and actions
Honoring your connection to nature and the cycles around you
Staying grounded while reaching for higher understanding
Your guide offers you a gift—a symbol or token of this journey. If you have questions, now is the time to ask.
Returning from the Journey
Thank your guide warmly. Retrace your steps through the forest, back to the riverbank. Say goodbye, knowing you can return whenever you wish. Follow the river upstream, washing away anything you cannot bring back.
Climb back through the roots, enter the World Tree’s trunk, and step out into the meadow. Feel your body again, wiggle your fingers and toes, take a deep breath, and open your eyes.
This journey through the World Tree offers a powerful way to explore your spiritual connections and find balance between different realms of existence. By visiting the Upperworld, Middle World, and Underworld, and understanding your place along the Axis Mundi, you gain insight into your inner and outer life.
